CinC Trophy Secured!

11/1/2014

On November 1st, Air Force BEAT ARMY and secured the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy for the first time since 2011 and for only the third time since 2002.  Let's hope this begins a long string of dominance like we enjoyed in the 80s and 90s.  The Chapter got together with the West Point Society of Chicago at Brehon Pub in Chicago (below left). Despite the Navy flag being flown outside (tactical deception), about twenty Zoomies and WPs (and one Navy grad) managed to locate the rejoin point over the course of the game, including some out of town Zoomies in town for the USA Rugby match at Soldier Field later that day.  The NIPC also hosted a great event at Toby Keith's in Rosemont (below right).  Many of our members attended that event as well.

Thanks to everyone who came out to the Brehon Pub to watch Air Force sink Navy this Saturday.  We had a good showing of Zoomies, including Brendan O'Brien '94, Chris Duhon '94, Tyler Schoen '06 and Mike Jamoom '97.  However, the squids outdid us in turnout!  Let's not let Army show us up on 1 Nov!
Paul Schubert '79 and Fred Strauss '71 made it to the Northern Illinois Parents Club watch party in Downers Grove and also report a great time.
Come out and join either group on 1 Nov for Air Force - Army!
Go Air Force! Beat Army!

All Academy Golf Tournament

Thanks to all who came out to yesterday's All Academy Golf Tournament at Cantigny.  We had a great time on a beautiful course.  While my foursome (whose names shall remain protected) combined for a humble 1 under, another foursome made up of one USAFA grad, one retired AF officer, one sibling and one USMA grad took the whole shebang at 14 under.  Congrats are also in order to Ron Gaulton '83 for his closest to the pin win.  He also came within a half inch of a longest put prize as well.  The Zoomies represented well, so I hope to see even more folks next year.  Thanks to Johnathan Berry (USMA), Paul Schubert (USAFA) and Fred Weber (USNA)  for organizing the event!

Networking News

A couple updates from your Networking Director:

Employment Hub
I am in coordination with at least the USMA society right now to eventually establish a tri-service employment hub.  If you would like to assist, please let me know and I'll bring you into the fold.
In the meantime, I have added a few pages to our website where we can post job listings, job seekers and other employment resources.  Please check it out and contact me if you have information you'd like to get added.

Events
I'd like to get some more Zoomie events going and see some more turnout at joint events hosted by other groups.  Amanda and I attended the All Academy Happy Hour last week at Tavern on Rush and met some great new people!  I recommend those and will continue to put info on our website as soon as I get it from Kelly Demers.  Stay tuned to our website and Facebook for all the latest updates.

In addition to the Rooftop event I am heading up, I think there might be interest in a family friendly picnic sometime this summer as well as smaller happy hour gatherings in the city and burbs.  These can require as little effort as setting a time and place to meet!
Unfortunately, with my pending USAF retirement and on-going job search, I don't have time to plan all these events right.  If you are interested in taking lead on any event, please just let me know.

Have a great summer!

Founders Day Dinner 2014

Founders Day Dinner 2014 was a huge success!  Thanks to all of our sponsors for making it a possibility.  The dinner was held at the Pritzker Military Museum and Library.  We started with a cocktail hour in the beautiful library with a great panorama of Millenium Park and the Art Institute to enjoy with our drinks.  The "hour" was more like an hour and a half which was perfect for a group of grads and Academy supporters that hadn't come together for a long time and had the opportunity to renew some old connections and make some new ones.
We then moved into the second floor gallery for our seated dinner.  The cadets of AFROTC Detachment 195 at Illinois Institute of Technology posted the colors and Brett Lucas '97 led us in our invocation.  The catering from Blue Plate was outstanding.  We then screened the preview version of "A Year in the Blue."  We ended with remarks from the Superintendent, Maj Gen Johnson, and a great question and answer session.
It was a great night and hopefully the genesis of many more great Chicago AOG events to come.  See you at the next event.  Go Blue!
